Our Coffees — Finca La Lila
April 2018
This month’s coffee embodies a daughter’s profound love for her father. Spending time on her father’s coffee farm as a young girl, Aura Lila developed a passion for coffee growing. Her father, Antonio Cardenas, was a coffee grower in the Nueva Segovia region of Nicaragua, renowned for its exceptional specialty coffees. Cardenas was well known not only for his delicious coffee, but also for the unprecedented kindness with which he treated his workers.
In the 1980s, the Nicaraguan civil war forced the Cardenas family to abandon their farm. Aura Lila emigrated to the United States in search of a better life for her family; but never let her father and his beloved coffee farm fade from her memory. Upon his death, she vowed to continue his legacy and the family tradition of owning a family coffee farm back in Nicaragua.
Today, Aura Lila has made her dream into a reality, managing Finca La Lila with her son, brother-in-law, and nephew. Together, they grow incredible coffee that would make Antonio proud. Our two deliveries this month will each feature a distinct coffee from Finca La Lila — this early April delivery includes La Lila’s washed process coffee, while our mid-month delivery will receive their natural process offering. We invite you to enjoy the special meaning of coffee cherished over generations.
